Event Information
DESCRIPTION:
A fast route with more country lanes for the BST version. Pass several airports; RAF Brize Norton & Fairford. Half way control is at Cafe de la Post an old village Post Office before skirting Wychwood Forest. Cotswolds towns and villages galore in their picturesque beauty. One major climb up out of Wootton under Edge and some rollers around halfway.
DETAILS:
Staggered start times will be used and you’ll set off in groups of six. As such I’ve allowed bookings for up to 6 entrants so if you want to start with friends please include them in the one booking to make my life easier. Whether solo or a group please indicate your estimated average MOVING speed and your control faff level. This will aid me in forming the starting groups and their start time; the faster movers will set off first.
Please try to stay in your group. If you split up do not form a group with any other riders.
The route is using free controls except for a cafe in the Cotswolds Water Park who will have a quick serve meal available.
I am looking at the possibility of using alternative proof of passage so you don’t have to stop to get receipts or answer infos. I’m trying an app available for both Android & Apple that you can log in when in the correct location; I’ll update you in later correspondence.
START/FINISH:
Please only arrive a short time before your start time and when you do remain socially distanced.
Tea & Coffee available from Gary Harris Cycles. Toilet facilities at the golf centre will be limited by one person in the building at a time so please go before you arrive.
Parking available at start. Gate opens at 06:30 and will close at 19:00; if you think you’ll be back later please use on street parking in Frenchay village about 5mins away (factor in a staggered start).
Type & Validation
- The route is advisory - you just have to visit the controls and gain proof of passage within time limits where specified; there may be parts that you'd like to take a different route and that is entirely up to you; the time limits for the controls don't change!
- Validation: Instant - you get to take your validated brevet card home straight away at the end of the event.

What others think.
Great organisation, great route, great company 👍🏻👍🏻
Really well organised with extra effort needed to cover COVID and all ran really well. Hooked up with a few know and a couple unknown riders in our group that worked out a treat with well matched pace and great company on route. Loved the less travelled lanes and even the larger routes were pretty car free for short runs. A fitting restart of official events & big thanks to Will and helpers for a great days riding.
Cracking route
Exploring lesser known bits of the Cotswolds, hidden valleys, winding avenues – really well planned route and brilliantly organised for Covid conditions. Food stop at the Water Park was excellent. Jury’s out on iOrienteering App but lots of alternative ways to check in/record the ride. Weather was bleak and grey with a bitter North wind – but didn’t put a dampner on it at all. Great all round hope to do more GWRs soon 🙂
